Three ways to line up three

Lustra Match 3, Frostline Bubble Shooter and Trivet Tile Match all clear a set as soon as three alike meet, and they differ in what you touch. In Lustra Match 3 you swap two neighbouring gems, by dragging one onto the other or tapping both, and a swap that makes no line slides back and costs nothing. In Frostline Bubble Shooter you aim a bubble with a dotted guide that shows the path through the first wall bounce and where the bubble will settle; three or more of a colour pop, and anything left hanging falls for double points. In Trivet Tile Match nothing swaps or shoots: you tap a tile with nothing lying on it and it goes to a tray of seven, where three alike clear, and a tile that fills the seventh slot without a triple loses the board.
All three are free to play in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a computer, with no account. Each keeps your stars and best scores on the device you play on, and a sync code moves them to another device. Each also has a daily board and a hard mode that opens once you have cleared the first few levels.
Special pieces and the lodestone
Lustra Match 3 turns shapes into power: four in a line makes a line blaster that clears its row or column, an L or T makes a bomb, and five in a line makes a prism that clears every gem of the colour you swap it with. Frostline Bubble Shooter rewards streaks instead: popping on consecutive shots builds a combo multiplier, and every fourth popping shot in a row earns a bomb, which blasts everything around it except stone, or a prism, which matches any colour it touches. Trivet Tile Match has a streak reward of its own. Triples cleared on taps in a row make a cascade, and every third step of a cascade earns a lodestone. Tap Lodestone and then any tile, even one buried under others, and the tiles of that kind still needed for a triple fly in from anywhere on the board and clear. A tray holding pairs is a set-up rather than a risk, as long as their thirds are open: finish them on taps in a row.
Levels, goals and boards
Lustra Match 3 has 40 hand-tuned levels, with fresh boards after level 40. Each level shows its goals and its moves: clear gems of a colour, break the ice and stone under the gems (stone takes two hits), bring the brass lamps down to the bottom, or reach a score. Moves left over turn into extra points once the goals are done, so finishing early is the fastest way to three stars, and hard mode opens after level 10. Frostline Bubble Shooter has 40 levels as well: the ceiling drops a row every few shots, and you win by clearing every coloured bubble before one crosses the dashed line, with fewer shots earning more stars, up to three. Stone bubbles never pop and fall only when what holds them is cut away, and bombs frozen in the ice go off when a bubble next to them pops. Endless mode brings new rows from the top instead, and clearing level 5 opens a hard endless board where you cannot swap the next bubble in.
Trivet Tile Match has 192 boards in eight rooms, Orchard, Tidewater, Glasshouse, Workshop, Lodge, Archive, Playhouse and Grand Hall, from 18 tiles on two layers to 165 on five. Each room brings a new rule and its own set of ten drawings: veiled tiles hide their faces until uncovered, vines tie two tiles together, spools stack tiles on one spot, frost thaws after a number of triples, padlocks open when their key tile is taken and curtains open on a triple of the tile on their medal. The Grand Hall mixes them all, and every board can be cleared, hard mode included. Each board gives two Undos, one Lift that moves three tray tiles to a shelf above the tray, and one Hint; a board cleared without them earns a second star, and a cascade of three the third. Clearing 12 Orchard boards opens hard mode: a tray of six and no Undo, Lift or Hint, though lodestones still work.
Daily boards and a race against a friend
Each of the three has a daily board that is the same for every player that day: Lustra Match 3's daily level, Frostline Bubble Shooter's daily board and Trivet Tile Match's daily board, which rotates through the looks and rules of its eight rooms. Trivet Tile Match is the only one of the three with an opponent. Play with a friend sends a room link, and the two of you race on the same board over one, three or five boards, small, medium or large. There is no Undo, Lift or Hint in a race, a tray that fills starts your board over, and a bot takes the seat of a player who drops. Lustra Match 3 and Frostline Bubble Shooter are played alone.
Frequently asked questions
Which match 3 game is the easiest to start with?
Lustra Match 3 and
Frostline Bubble Shooter. In Lustra you drag a gem onto its neighbour and a swap that makes no line costs nothing, and in Frostline you drag to aim and let go, with a dotted guide showing the shot.
Trivet Tile Match takes one tap per tile, and its first room, the Orchard, teaches the tray before any room rule begins.
Can I play match 3 against a friend?
Trivet Tile Match can: choose Play with a friend, pick one, three or five boards and send the link, and you race to clear the same boards. Lustra Match 3 and Frostline Bubble Shooter are played alone, each with a daily board to compare.
