Mizan Spades

Five tables across Istanbul, from a tea garden under the plane trees to the masters' hall. Each room has three regulars with habits of their own, and every table you win opens the next one with one more house rule.

Batak, the Turkish trick-taking game, against three computer players: bidding, spades trump and partner rules, a five-table league, a daily deal.

Four players get 13 cards each and play passes to the right (counter-clockwise). Pick the rule set on the title screen. Bidding (ihaleli batak): each player bids how many tricks they will take, from 4 to 13, or passes; the highest bidder names trump and leads. The bidder scores every trick taken if the bid is made and loses the bid if not; the others score one point per trick, and a player who takes no trick loses the bid. Spades trump (koz maça): spades are always trump and every player calls 1 to 13 tricks; a made call scores 10 per trick called plus 1 per extra trick, a missed call loses 10 per trick called. Partners (eşli batak): you and the player opposite bid together from 7 to 13 and score as a side. In every rule set you must follow suit and beat the highest card on the table when you can; with no card of the led suit you must trump, and overtrump when you can. Trumps cannot be led until one has been played, unless you hold nothing else. Tap a bright card to play it; dimmed cards are not allowed at that moment and the game says why. The league has five tables, each with three regulars and one more house rule: no trump or a zero call, doubling or overtrick penalties, double penalties, and a 12-hand final. Win a table to open the next. The friendly table lets you pick easy, normal or hard players, and the daily deal gives everyone the same four hands.
