About Trellis Four in a Row
An upright walnut frame, clay-red and porcelain-white discs, and a rule a child can learn in a minute. Games on it are still won and lost six moves before the last disc drops.
Four in a row against the computer on a classic 7x6 board, a wide 8x7 board or with Pop out rules: five levels, a ladder, 120 puzzles.
How to play Trellis Four in a Row
On the title screen pick Match, Ladder or Puzzles, then press Play. The setup card opens with the rules: Classic (7 columns, 6 rows), Wide (8 columns, 7 rows) or Pop out. Tap or click a column to drop a disc: it falls to the lowest free hole. You can also move between the columns with the arrow keys and drop with Enter, or press 1 to 8. Four discs of your colour in a straight line, across, down or diagonal, win. A full board is a draw. Pop out: on your turn you may instead pull one of your own discs out of the bottom row with the arrow under its column, and every disc above it falls one row; a full board is not the end while someone can pop, the same position three times is a draw, and a pop that makes four for both colours is won by the player who popped. Match: choose Red (moves first) or White and a level from 1 Beginner to 5 Master. Undo takes back your last move and the reply, Hint marks the column the computer would choose for you. Ladder: ten opponents per rule set, from Stacker to Master, each with its own way of playing; beat one to open the next. Puzzles: four chapters of ten per rule set, win in 2 to 5 moves against the best defence, each with exactly one winning first move; a wrong move is taken back. The daily puzzle is the same for every player. Winning at level 3, beating the third ladder opponent or solving a puzzle from chapter 2 opens hard mode: no undo, no hints, no warning when the other side has three in a line, and one wrong move ends a puzzle.

Tips
- The middle column is part of more lines than any other: start there, and take it back when you can.
- Build two threats at once, one on top of the other or on two columns: your opponent can block only one.
- Before you drop a disc, check what it lets your opponent play in the hole right above it.
- Red, who moves first, wants threats on odd rows counted from the bottom and White on even rows: on a nearly full board that decides who is forced to fill the fatal hole.
- In Pop out, pulling out your bottom disc moves a whole column down: look for the pop that completes a line one row lower.
