About Wickfen Castle Defense
The drainage dykes broke and the fen came back, and with it the mire folk that once kept to the deep water. You are the last warden of Wickfen: a lantern, a short blade and whatever the crofts can pay, one causeway and one night at a time.
Walk the fen as its warden: pick up coins, pay them into towers, walls and crofts, and hold the keep through the night on eight maps.
How to play Wickfen Castle Defense
You walk the fen yourself. On a phone, drag anywhere to move; with a mouse, hold the button and the warden walks towards the cursor; WASD or the arrow keys work too. Walk over coins to pick them up. Stand still on a build plot and your coins flow into it: when the price is paid, the building rises. Standing on a building that is already up pays for its next level, but no building can go past the keep's level, so raise the keep when you can. In daylight you build and gather; when the day runs out, or when you press Start night for a few bonus coins, the mire folk come from the edges of the map. Towers, walls, guards and the keep fight on their own and you fight too: the warden strikes whatever is in reach, and Flare (Space, or the round button) knocks back everything around you on a cooldown. If you fall, you come back at the keep after a few seconds. Destroyed buildings stay as rubble until you pay to rebuild them; the rest mend at dawn, when the keep, crofts and peat cuttings drop their coins. The run is lost when the keep falls. Hold every night to clear the map and open the next.

Features
Eight fen maps
From Reedmere to Mire Crown, each map adds a building, a foe or a rule: guardhouses, peat cuttings, lamp posts for moonless nights, fire kilns, bell towers, tidal flats that open at low tide and ballistas.
You walk, you pay, it rises
Coins are picked up by walking over them and paid into a plot by standing on it. Ten kinds of building, most with three levels, all capped by the keep's level.
Ten kinds of mire folk
Mudlings, runners that raid crofts, wall-smashing brutes, flying wisps, spitters, armoured shellbacks, burrowers that dig under walls, brood mothers and two bosses: the Colossus and the Mire King.
Warden's hall
Every run earns embers, one per night held and more for a clear. Spend them on ten perks with up to three levels each, from deeper pockets to cheaper rebuilding.
Stars, hard mode and a daily run
Each map gives up to three stars. Clearing map 3 opens hard mode with 35% more enemy health, and the daily run puts everyone on the same map and twist without perks.
Tips
- Pick up the coins by the keep first and put your first watchtower between the keep and the gap the first night comes through.
- Every building is capped at the keep's level, so a keep upgrade at the end of the second day opens stronger towers for the rest of the map.
- Crofts pay at every dawn: built on the first day they return their price by the third morning.
- A wall across the only way in makes the whole wave stop and chew; stand beside it and fight while your towers shoot over it.
- Save Flare for a crowd at a wall or at the keep: one flare that catches six or more foes turns a breaking wall into a quiet one.
Frequently asked questions
How do I build in Wickfen?
Walk onto a build plot and stand still: your coins flow into it one by one and the building rises when its price is paid. A half-paid plot keeps what you put in. Stand on a finished building to pay for its next level.
Why can't I upgrade my tower?
No building can go past the keep's level. Stand at the keep and raise it first, and every other building can then reach the new level.
What happens when the warden falls?
Nothing is lost: the warden comes back at the keep after a few seconds, and the Quick return perk shortens the wait. The run only ends when the keep falls.
Does Wickfen save my progress?
Stars, unlocked maps, embers and perks stay on this device. Sync devices moves them to another phone or browser with a one-time code; there is no account.
Can I play Wickfen on my phone?
Yes. Drag anywhere to walk with a virtual stick that follows your thumb, and tap the round Flare button. The map fills the screen upright or sideways.
