About Flinder Asteroid Shooter
The mining belts past the Ashfall Shelf have gone wild, and every rock you crack still burns for a moment. One ship, an engine with real momentum and four shots at a time: break the belt open one chain at a time.
Fly a drifting ship through a wrap-around field and shoot space rocks whose glowing pieces smash every rock they hit. 30 sectors in 5 worlds.
How to play Flinder Asteroid Shooter
Your ship keeps its momentum: turn, burn the engine to speed up and brake or turn around to slow down. The field wraps, so anything that leaves one edge comes back on the opposite one. Shoot a rock and it splits into two smaller pieces that fly on along your shot's line, one to each side. For under a second those pieces glow, and a glowing piece that touches another rock breaks it and itself, so their pieces glow too. Every break in one cascade is a link in the same chain and scores its value times its link number, up to ten times. Small rocks break into dust. Clear every rock and saucer to finish a sector. Rocks broken in a chain drop embers: fly through them, and every 25 give you an extra ship. You start with three ships and get one more for every world you clear. A faint guide shows where your next shot will hit and where its pieces will fly.
Controls
- Touch
- Slide the stick in the lower left to turn and, further out, to fire the engine; hold Fire on the right to shoot.
- Keyboard
- Left and right arrows or A and D turn, up or W fires the engine, down or S brakes, Space or J shoots, Esc pauses.
Features
Chains that build
Every shot that breaks a rock sends out glowing pieces. Each rock they smash adds a link, and each link scores its value times its link number, up to ten times.
30 sectors in 5 worlds
Ashfall Shelf, Rust Reach, Cinder Eye, Glass Drift and The Hollow each have six sectors and end with a hulk, a giant rock that splits into three.
A new rule in every world
Iron rocks that take four shots, a dead star that pulls everything toward it, gas rocks that burst and lodestones that drift toward your ship.
Two kinds of saucer
Skiffs drift across and fire loosely. Lancers from the third world on fly faster and aim at you. Both can be caught in a chain.
Embers and extra ships
Rocks broken in a chain drop embers. Every 25 you collect earn an extra ship, and every world you clear adds one, up to six.
Daily belt and hard mode
The daily belt is the same six sectors for everyone that day. Clearing world 1 opens hard mode, with faster rocks, sharper saucers and no aim guide.
Tips
- Before you shoot a big rock, check the guide lines: a shot whose pieces fly into a crowd is worth far more than two clean hits.
- Iron rocks take four shots but break at once when a glowing piece hits them, so line up a stone rock that throws its pieces into the iron.
- You can only have four shots in the air. Fire in short bursts so you are never empty when a saucer turns up.
- Brake early. The engine pushes hard but the ship drifts a long way, and most lost ships come from flying into a piece you just broke.
- Near the dead star, orbit instead of fighting the pull: burn sideways and let it bend your path.
Frequently asked questions
How do chains work?
A rock broken by your shot splits into pieces that glow for under a second. A glowing piece that touches a rock or a saucer breaks it and breaks itself, and the new pieces glow too. All of those breaks count as one chain, and each one scores times its place in the chain, up to ten times.
How do I play on a phone?
Put your left thumb anywhere in the lower left and slide it: a short slide turns the ship toward that direction, a long slide also fires the engine. Hold Fire with your right thumb. In landscape the stick and the Fire button sit beside the field.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, on this device. Every world you clear opens as a starting point for later runs. A run started from a later world begins with three ships and a score of zero.
Why does my ship keep sliding?
The ship has momentum, like a craft in space. It slows down slowly on its own; to stop quickly, brake with the down key, or turn around and burn the engine.
What happens at the edges of the field?
The field wraps around. Your ship, your shots, the rocks and the saucers leave one edge and come back on the opposite edge, so a shot can hit a rock behind you.
What is hard mode?
Clearing world 1 opens it. Rocks move faster, saucers fire faster and aim better, the aim guide is gone, and an extra ship takes 40 embers instead of 25.
