About Clave Rhythm
Clave plays one evening across a city: a rain-wet rooftop at dusk, a basement club under brass lamps, a coast road at night, a terracotta plaza under string lights and a tiled rail tunnel. Each place has its band and two songs, and you sit in with them. Last comes a concert hall, where the band plays six classics.
Hit the notes in time with ten original tracks and six classics such as Ode to Joy. Fill the pedal, loop your part and play the overdub on top.
How to play Clave Rhythm
Notes slide down four lanes towards the pads at the bottom. Tap a lane, or press D, F, J or K, as a note reaches its pad; the closer to the beat, the better the hit (Perfect, Great, Good). Hold the long notes until their tail ends, follow slides into the next lane, hit both notes of a double together and drum fast on a roll. Ten hits in a row raise the multiplier, up to four times. Perfect and Great hits fill the loop pedal: tap it, or press Space, and from the next bar your part plays itself while gold overdub notes for a second instrument come down the lanes. Overdub notes pay double. If you miss, the part you are playing drops out of the song until your next hit.
Controls
- Touch
- Tap the lanes as notes reach the pads, keep a finger down on long notes, slide it into the next lane on slides and tap the wide pedal button to start a loop.
- Mouse
- Click a lane when a note reaches its pad and hold the button on long notes; click the pedal to loop. Pick songs and difficulties with clicks.
- Keyboard
- D, F, J and K (or the arrow keys, or A, S, K and L picked under Timing) play the lanes, Space stomps the loop pedal, Escape pauses, and a drum roll can be played by alternating the two keys of one hand.
Features
Ten tracks in five places
Rooftop (lo-fi), Basement (funk), Night Drive (synthwave), Plaza (Latin) and Tunnel (drum and bass) hold two songs each, two to two and a half minutes long, all composed for this game.
A new note type in every chapter
Tap notes first, then hold notes, slides that move between lanes, double notes on chords and drum rolls to play as fast as you can.
The loop pedal
Perfect and Great hits fill the pedal. Stomp it and your part loops for about fourteen seconds while you play an overdub on a second instrument for double points.
48 charts, stars and hard mode
Every song has Easy, Normal and Expert charts with three stars each, 144 in all, and stars open the next chapters. Hard mode tightens the timing and adds a groove meter that can end the song.
Daily chart and a race with a friend
The daily chart is one song for everyone, sometimes mirrored. Send a link to race a friend on the same chart at the same moment; the higher score wins.
Six classics
Ode to Joy, Canon in D, In the Hall of the Mountain King, Rondo alla Turca, The Entertainer and the William Tell Overture, played by the band in a concert hall that is open from the start.
Tips
- Run the timing check once on each device: it measures how late your taps and your speakers are and takes that off every hit.
- Stomp the pedal just before a hard passage: the loop plays your part through it at Great while you take the easier gold notes.
- Watch which part you play at the top of the screen: verses can follow the bass or the keys, and their notes sit on different beats from the melody.
- On a slide, keep your finger down and move it into the next lane before the ribbon ends; on a keyboard, press the next lane's key while still holding the first.
- Stars come from accuracy (70% and 90%) and from overdub notes, so a song you know well is the place to chase all three.
Frequently asked questions
My hits feel late or early. What do I do?
Open Timing on the song screen and tap along with twelve clicks. The game measures the delay of your screen and speakers and corrects every hit by it. You can also nudge the offset by 5 ms at a time there.
Can I play on a phone?
Yes. Each lane is a touch zone across the whole screen width, several fingers work at once, and the loop pedal is the wide button at the bottom.
What happens when I miss?
The combo resets and the part you are playing drops out of the music until you hit again. On normal mode the song always plays to the end; in hard mode misses drain the groove meter, and an empty meter ends the song.
How do I open the other chapters?
Collect stars. Every chart has three: finish with 70% accuracy, finish with 90%, and play enough overdub notes. Basement opens at 6 stars, Night Drive at 14, Plaza at 24 and Tunnel at 36. The Concert Hall with the six classics is open from the start.
Is my progress saved?
Yes, on this device: stars, best scores, your timing offset and note speed. The site's device sync can move them to another device.
