About Glimwick Road Crossing
On the night of the lantern festival someone has to carry the flame from Old Town to the lighthouse at the end of the coast road. The Dark comes in behind whoever stops, so the bearers hop: across market carts and night trains, frozen water and foundry floors, and out along the shore before the tide.
Hop a lantern bearer across roads, rails and rivers through eight lands, from Old Town to the Storm Tide. Ten characters to unlock and a daily route.
How to play Glimwick Road Crossing
Tap or press the up arrow to hop one tile forward; swipe or use the arrow keys (or WASD) to hop left, right or back. Traffic and trains knock you out in one hit, water and molten metal end the run unless you land on a raft, a floe, a boat or a lily pad, and rafts carry you sideways, so hop off before they take you past the edge. A ringing bell and a flashing signal come just before every train. Stand still too long or hop too far back and the Dark catches up. The route changes land every 36 rows and each land adds a rule: ice slides you one tile further, gusts in the Windy Heights push your landing sideways, the Night Market is lit only by lamps and headlights, lily pads in the Sinking Marsh go under after a wobble, the Foundry has belts that carry you and presses that drop, and in the Storm Tide the sea chases you from behind. Your score is the furthest row you reach; coins on the road and three for every new land unlock new lantern bearers.

Features
Eight lands, one route
Old Town, Rail Yard, Frozen Lake, Windy Heights, Night Market, Sinking Marsh, Foundry and Storm Tide follow each other every 36 rows, and each one adds its own rule or hazard.
Ten lantern bearers
Coins you collect unlock new characters, from Wick at the start to Aurora at 850 coins. Each has its own trail, hop sound and idle movement.
Close calls count
Hop out of a lane just before a cart or a train comes through and the game counts it as a close call, with goals and missions built around them.
Hard mode
Unlocks once you reach the Frozen Lake. Traffic runs 30% faster and the safe verges between lanes are gone.
Daily route
One route a day, the same for every player, and one attempt at it. Your distance is ranked against everyone who ran it that day.
Journey records
The Journey page keeps your furthest progress in every land and marks the lands you have cleared.
Tips
- Hop in short bursts and stop on the verges: the Dark only closes in while you stand still or fall behind, so a pause on safe ground costs you little.
- Watch the signal lamps on the verge beside every track: when they flash and the bell rings, a train crosses in about a second.
- Rafts and floes carry you towards the edge, so hop forward or step sideways against the current before you drift too far.
- On the Frozen Lake every landing on ice slides one more tile, so hop onto the ice only when the lane after it is clear too.
- In the Windy Heights the flags on the verge stiffen and point the way just before a gust; land during a gust and you are pushed one tile that way.
Frequently asked questions
How do I play Glimwick Road Crossing on a phone?
Tap anywhere to hop forward. Swipe left, right or down to hop that way. Your finger can rest on the screen; the bearer crouches while you hold and hops when you let go.
Why did I lose when I was standing still?
The Dark follows the route behind you. It speeds up the further you get and can never be more than six rows behind your furthest row, so waiting too long or walking back ends the run.
How do I unlock new characters?
Every coin you collect counts towards a lifetime total that is never spent. New characters join at set totals, from 20 coins for Tallow to 850 for Aurora. Each new land you reach in a run also gives three coins.
What changes in hard mode?
Traffic, trains and rafts move faster and the verges between groups of lanes are replaced by more road, so there is almost no safe ground. It unlocks once you reach the Frozen Lake in a normal or daily run.
Can I play the daily route more than once?
No, the daily route gives you one attempt. Leaving it half way also uses the attempt. A new route opens at midnight UTC.
Does the game save my progress?
Coins, characters, best distances and missions stay on this device. Use Sync devices on the site to move them to another phone or browser with a one-time code; there is no account.
