About Ikat Dot Connect
Ikat cloth is dyed before it is woven, so every thread has to land exactly where its colour belongs. Eight rooms of an old dye works hold 240 looms, from the Linen Room to the Grand Loom, and every pair of beads waits for its thread.
Join matching dots with threads and fill every tile. 240 boards in eight rooms add bridges, warp gates, one-way tiles, knots and seams.
How to play Ikat Dot Connect
Drag from a dot to the other dot of the same colour to lay a thread between them. Threads may not cross or share a tile, and a board is solved only when every pair is joined and every tile is filled. Drawing over another thread cuts it back; retracing your own thread takes tiles back. A thread drawn from its dot to its partner with no other colour in between is set: other strokes cannot cut it until you tap it to loosen it. Later rooms add missing tiles, bridges that carry one thread over and one under, warp gates to the opposite edge, one-way tiles, brass knots that hold two threads and seams that close the side between two tiles.
Controls
- Touch
- Drag from a dot or a thread's loose end to draw. Retrace to take tiles back. Tap a set thread to loosen it.
- Mouse
- Press on a dot and drag to draw a thread, then release. Click a set thread to loosen it.
- Keyboard
- Arrows move the cursor. Space picks up a dot or thread, the arrows draw and Space lets go. Z undoes, R restarts, H gives a hint and M opens the levels.
Features
240 boards in eight rooms
Linen Room, Dye Yard, Bridge Mill, Shuttle Hall, Reed Lane, Knot Garden, Night Market and Grand Loom hold 30 boards each, from 5x5 to 11x11.
A new tile in every room
Missing tiles, bridges, warp gates, one-way tiles, brass knots and stitched seams arrive one room at a time. The Grand Loom mixes them all.
One solution per board
Every board has exactly one way to fill it, so each one can be solved by reasoning, without guessing.
Set threads
Draw a thread from its dot to its partner with no other colour in between and it sets: no other stroke can cut it while you rework the rest.
Moves, stars and hints
One star for solving, two for a low move count, three for a perfect board with one move per colour. Every board you first solve perfectly earns a hint.
Daily board and races
A new board every day, the same for everyone, and races against a friend on the same board, one, three or five boards long.
Tips
- Start with dots near corners, edges and missing tiles: they have the fewest ways out.
- A tile with only two open sides has to carry a thread through both of them.
- Plan each thread before you draw it: switching colours costs a move, and a perfect board uses one move per colour.
- Set the threads you are sure of. They cannot be cut, so you can rework the rest of the board freely.
- On one-way boards, follow every arrow from the bright bead: a thread that meets an arrow head-on is refused.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as a move?
Each time you start drawing a different colour from the one before. Lifting your finger and carrying on with the same colour is not a new move. A perfect board takes one move per colour.
Why can I not draw through this thread?
It is set: it was drawn from its dot to its partner with no other colour in between. Tap it once to loosen it, then draw through it.
Does every board have exactly one solution?
Yes. Each of the 240 boards and every daily board has been checked to have one solution.
Do the threads have to cover every tile?
Yes. A board is solved only when every pair is joined and every tile carries a thread. Bridges and knots carry two.
How does hard mode work?
Hard mode opens after 12 boards of the Linen Room. Hints are off and each board allows only its two-star move count; going over ends the attempt.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Stars, opened rooms and hints stay on this device, and the site's device sync can move them to another one.
