About Kenning Word Guess
Kenning is an old trick of poets: name a thing by linking two others. Here the links are boards. Every word you crack hands its locked letters to the next one, from a lamplit ink room down to a hall of mirrors where two words hide at once.
Guess the hidden five-letter word in six tries from colour clues. Solve with guesses to spare and your letters carry into the next board.
How to play Kenning Word Guess
Type a word of the board's length and press Enter. Each tile then shows a colour: green with a bar means the letter is in that place, amber with a dot means the word has that letter somewhere else, and grey means the letter is not in the word. You have six guesses on a normal board. In Chapters and Endless, boards are linked: when you solve one, you keep one letter for every guess you had left (up to the board's limit), taken from the letters you locked green first. They start the next board already in place, and the next hidden word is chosen to fit them, so a quick solve makes the next board easier. Every solved board in a row raises the points the next one pays. Losing a board breaks the chain. Chapters add a rule each: six-letter words, fog that hides one tile's colour per row, a keyboard with missing letters, and two words at once where every guess plays on both. Classic is a single word, and the daily word is the same for everyone each day.

Features
Linked boards
Each solved board hands its locked letters to the next one as placed tiles: one letter for every guess you had left. Good solving snowballs, and every board in a chain pays more than the last.
Six chapters, 29 boards
The Ink Room teaches the links, then six-letter words, fog that hides one colour per row, keyboards with missing letters, two words at once and a final chapter that mixes them all.
Daily word and Classic
One word a day, the same for every player, scored against everyone who played it. Classic is a single word whenever you want one.
Endless chain and hard mode
Endless keeps linking boards until one beats you, with fewer guesses as the chain grows. Hard mode makes you use every hint you have found.
Word duel
Play a friend on one shared board: you take turns guessing the same word, every guess shows its colours to both of you, and the one who finds it wins the word.
Tips
- Open with a word of five different common letters, such as one with two vowels, to read as many colours as possible from the first row.
- Solving with guesses to spare is worth more than points: each spare guess carries one letter into the next board, up to the board's limit.
- The letters you lock green earliest are the ones that carry, so on a linked board it pays to place letters, not only to find them.
- In the fog, a tile with no colour told you nothing: test that letter again in another place before you rule it out.
- On two boards, pick guesses that test letters still open on both words, and finish the board that is closer first.
Frequently asked questions
How many letters carry into the next board?
One for every guess you had left when you solved it, up to the board's limit of two or three. They are the letters you locked green first, and the next word is picked so that it holds them in the same places.
What happens if I run out of guesses?
The board shows its word and the chain breaks. In Chapters you start that chapter again from its first board; your cleared chapters stay open.
Why is a word I typed not accepted?
Guesses must be real words from the game's word list. In hard mode a guess must also keep every green letter in place and use every amber letter found so far, and on a board with missing keys you can only use the letters on the keyboard.
What do the colours mean for repeated letters?
A letter is marked green or amber only as many times as the hidden word holds it, green places first. A second copy beyond that shows grey.
Is my progress saved?
Yes. Opened chapters, stars, best scores and today's daily word stay on this device, and the site's device sync can move them to another one.
How does the word duel work?
Choose Play with a friend, pick one, three or five words and five or six letters, and send the link. You guess in turns on the same rows; whoever finds the word scores it, and if six rows pass with nobody finding it, nobody scores.
